This film provides an intimate look at Alpha Saylor of Cumberland, Kentucky.
Alpha Saylor was born and raised in the mountains of eastern Kentucky. Alpha grew up singing the praises of God in her family’s church, and her musical talent was evident early on. While still a youngster, Alpha was chosen to sing on the local radio, and she continued to keep busy singing at her family’s church. Though Alpha later married and began her own family, she never stopped making and sharing her special kind of music.
For years, Alpha hosted a religious musical radio show in Cumberland, Kentucky, and she also traveled to various churches to sing her praises of God. Eventually, Alpha’s musical talents became so well known that she was asked to sing at festivals and events in and around Harlan County, Kentucky. Alpha is now in her 60s, but her religious devotion and the sharing of her musical talents continue. Alpha sings at community gatherings, nursing homes, and churches in Harlan County, and she takes every opportunity to share her love of God. Alpha is appreciated by so many for her straightforward, warm style and her traditional mountain gospel music. Alpha’s musical ministry continues, as strong as ever.
